Abortion Rates

I would like to start this section saying that I am not biased on this issue, since I believe the issue itself is a conundrum being that both sides do have legitimate arguments; with that being said I do not have a viewpoint on abortion and will simply just list the trends found in abortion rates. I will not talk about why pro-choice and pro-life are right or wrong.
According to Spitz et al. (1996) abortion rates have been stable from 1980-1990 in regards to teenage girls of the ages 15-19 years old. In 1980, the researchers found that 35.8 out of 1000 of these teenage girls have had an abortion. In 1990, the rate increased insignificantly to 36 abortions out of 1000 of 15-19 years old girls. The researchers also found that abortion rates were higher among these girls if they were sexually experienced although they do not properly define sexually experienced within the article. They also found that the older the girl is, whether sexually experienced or not, the abortion rate would increase. A possible reason behind this is that the younger girls might not have as much resources to get an abortion or knowledge of the topic as well; Females in the 18-19 years old age range had the highest abortion rate which could possibly be attributed to more personal and legal autonomy as that age. Finer and Henshaw (2006) found contradictory evidence to the previous research; they found the abortion rate actually declined in 2001 which could possibly show a new trend in regards to abortion.
